Mariano Pensotti is an award-winning Argentinian playwright and theater director whose works have been presented in his home country as well as at prestigious festivals and venues around the world. The consortium will tour the play Cineastas (“Filmmakers”), which revolves around the stories of four filmmakers in Buenos Aires. The performances take place in an apparatus which simultaneously presents two scenarios, one for the filmmakers’ real lives and the other for the fictional lives of their films using a classic cinematic technique, the split screen. Each of the five presenters in the consortium will host the director and five-member company for a week of public performances and community engagement activities. The venues will offer pre-performance discussions, workshops with Pensotti for local artists, panel discussions, and receptions with the actors. Three of the venues (Dartmouth College, On the Boards, and the Walker Art Center) will commission and share with all their consortium partners essays by scholars to help contextualize the cultural references in the work. The performances at On the Boards will be filmed and made available through OntheBoards.tv.
